Yet another high quality example....

Glue used to repair bridge cracks

A construction team who poured structural adhesive into the rifts of a bridge to keep it from falling apart has been asked to start the job again, xinhuanet.com reported.

The Hanzhongmen Bridge in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, which was constructed three years ago and completed on November 18, 2008, is a main passageway connecting Hexi district and downtown Nanjing.

Officials of Nanjing Construction Committee first found the rifts and contracted a construction team to repair the bridge. "We found cracks in 55 railings due to the seasonal contraction of the building materials and the sinking of the groundwork," said Zhou Jianping, vice director of Nanjing Construction Committee.

The team, however, decided to finish the work in a creative way by using adhesive glue on the stone-made bridge. The repairs led to huge media exposure in Nanjing and criticism from the public.

The municipal constructive department held a news conference Wednesday and asked the construction team to return to the job. The final repair will be completed by the end of January next year and cost about 500,000 yuan ($73,250) which will be covered by the original construction

It's in finnish, but the story goes that an armchair covered with chinese fabric caused very bad skin irritation and rash.

GO OUTSOURCING GO! And not only the outsourcing is the problem but all the cheap imported crap that's shipped here.

I truly and sincerely hope, that the current financial crisis acts as some sort of wake up call for people to start really think about the whole chain how products are being made and with what resources....
